This week’s Provocative Question posed by Fandango deals with news sources. This week he asks:
Where do you get most of your news from? Do you consider your primary news source (or sources) to be objective purveyors of truths and facts?
I don’t. It is as simple as that. I believe nothing and know that every reported story is laced with half-truths, outright lies and sensationalism. Mostly sensationalism and is directed to cause the most drama/ratings possible. There is no such thing as objective news sources. So how do I know what is going on in the world? I don’t. I care, of course, I care, but there are always three sides to every story. (Four if you work in the legal field and have to count the judge’s side of the story.)
I can literally take one single headline and discuss it with my sister, my father, my daughters and my husband and have five completely different takes with “facts” from each. I truly believe that nothing we are fed through any news source is in anyway factual. And because of that, I refuse to listen.

I’m right next to you with my head in the sand. I heard it said by someone who thought I was being obtuse to refuse to get informed about ‘important’ stuff, that the problem with head in the sand thinking is the ostrich has their butt hanging right out there. It was amusing, but it didn’t change my opinion, which closely echoes your own.
