Share Your World – 7/19/2020

This week’s questions posed by Melanie cover a variety of fun topics. Brace yourself!!

Are justice and the law the same thing? Wait…give me a second to stop laughing. Ok…um, HELL no. Justice has no place in the legal system. It is soul-sucking to have to teach our clients that. It does not, however, stop us from fighting for the law to equal justice for our clients. Here’s an example: You perform a service. You are stiffed by the customer. You have to take them to court. You are told you are right and the judge gives you a piece of paper saying so. You turn that piece of paper into a judgment and proceed to collect against that customer. The customer files for bankruptcy. You cannot collect and you spent money fighting that customer just for a piece of paper saying “you are right”. No justice. 35 years ago when I entered the legal field as a paralegal, I felt like I was the champion of the underdogs. Now not so much.

Which kitchen appliance do you use every day? My Keurig. The mere thought of not having the appliance that makes the eyes open in the morning is scary.

What is one thing you’ll never do again? Only one thing huh? My brain is flooded with answers. Never let a person make you believe you are not worthy of breathing the same air as him? Yeah, lets go with that one.

What event escalated very quickly? Good question…I will use the experience my husband and SOMH went through on Saturday at the Washington Nationals Game. Gun shots were heard. It was clear to those sitting in the stadium near the left field gate that the shots were outside the stadium. Then the “whispers” started. You know…like the game where you tell the person next to you a secret and they tell the next one and so on and so on. Well, as you can imagine, within seconds, panic ensued. The stadium security and announcers did not say ANYTHING. People began screaming. I escalated from shots heard outside the stadium to a shooter in the concourse to a shooter in the stands to someone was killed. The players were rushed off the field and still NOT A SINGLE ANNOUNCEMENT. I received the text message from my husband and turned on the game. There was a marquee reading “Rain Delay”. No rain delay. After people were screaming and hiding behind the plastic stadium chairs (like that will help), the announcement was made that the “incident occurred outside of the stadium and to remain in your seats”. Of course, they are rushing the players off the field and the players are directing their family and fans into the dugouts and at this point, there is complete pandemonium. The scoreboard changes to instructions for people to exit the stadium through the center and right field gates. My husband said people are crying and screaming. He and his son walked out and stood outside the stadium with a crowd of other confused fans, all of whom understood that the shooting incident occurred outside of the stadium and the police had it under control. (No one was killed by the way) After about 1/2 hour, fans started to leave as they were not permitted back into the stadium. Once they got onto the Metro to leave downtown, my SOMH read on “twitter” that the game had been suspended. No one bothered to announce that to the fans now standing outside the stadium, which, by the way, is where the shooting occurred.

While the shooting incident was no doubt scary and sadly far to commonplace nowadays, the stadium security and announcers handled this so poorly. My husband would like refunded for his ticket, however instead the stadium is inviting fans back to see another game. My husband will accept that as it is (1) baseball and (2) a day with his son; but they are NOT National fans and went to the game only to see the Padres.

Yeah, that escalated quickly.

GRATITUDE  (As always, optional)

Feel free to share something that made you feel good from the past week! So going off my answer to the last question, I am very grateful that no one was seriously injured in the shooting in DC and that my husband, SOMH and all the other fans were safe.

As for feeling good, well, I decided to lie my old bones down on the hard floor this weekend and have a good snuggle with my lab. He is so loving, it warmed my heart.

Blogging gets the noise in my head least for a little while. I use blogging to weed through all that noise and find the humor in each situation, even if it takes some time to find it. I am not selling anything, just sharing experiences as a mother, Amma, wife, paralegal, volunteer, Muslimah, sister, daughter, mother-in-law, woman.

  1. Thank you SadiRose for Sharing Your World! I’m glad I could make you laugh! ☺ I was reading another in that series of books which generated my “Pool” post, and that justice question came up. Someone in that story committed a series of rapes that escalated to murders. One of the girls had a cousin who was very militant and at the end of the story that cousin got his justice for the girl because the law would not/could not step up and do it. That’s vigilantism (I believe it’s called) but there was a line that has stuck with me from that book “some sum-bitches just need killin’.” I realize it’s not ‘our’ (mankind’s) job to decide that individually, that’s what courts and law are allegedly for. But what the law IS is changing or has already changed, at least in the U.S.A. The criminal seems to have a lot more rights than their victim(s). Pieces of paper do no good, because if the criminal doesn’t want to pay (monetarily) there are probably ten dozen ways they can avoid doing so. And nothing will be done. I’ve had personal experience with that. The only thing I learned from it was to distrust people MORE.

I’m sorry that the mob mentality is alive and well and I’m very glad nothing bad happened to your relatives too! That stadium? I suspect there’s been a flood of complaints about how badly that was handled, but I’ve noticed that the current crop of “managers’ and people who are supposed to make hard decisions like that, drop the ball more often than they catch it. Just my opinion. Have a great week! (Oh and doggy snuggles are the BEST cure-all on the whole planet!)
