This week’s Provocative Question made me stop and go “huh”?
How vulnerable do you feel about potential hacks or intrusions while using your smartphone? And if you do feel vulnerable, what steps, if any, are you taking to protect yourself and your data? My cellphone can be hacked? I don’t mean to sound stupid on purpose, because I am aware of WiFi precautions and not clicking on suspicious links, etc. It is an exhaustive ongoing issue with some of the older folk here at the office just “not getting it”, but someone can take control of my phone camera and keystrokes? My iPad? Yikes. That makes the answer to this week’s question “I suddenly feel extremely vulnerable.”
As for protecting my data, where will it truly be protected? I feel like any apps or software out there to “protect” our data is equally hackable. I change my passwords often, use facial recognition instead of logging in with typed passwords when I can, and I would (like to think that I would) notice even a few cents off any of my accounts. That is not to say a hacker wouldn’t get away with something.
Now, in all fairness I did not read anything about Pegasus and spyware. I can’t handle that sort of anxiety so I may be making light of very scary situation and I don’t mean to. I can’t let my mind go there – the invasion and violation of my “personal space”. I will stick my head in the sand and ignore the world.
