Song Lyric Sunday – Sex

Warning – the song choice and lyrics are not subtle so those with delicate sensibilities should probably not read further.

This week’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt is “where you are supposed to find songs where somebody is having sex, or talking about it, insinuating sex, or hinting about sex.”

So…I’m going with Sodomy from the movie soundtrack “Hair”. It is a short, but graphic song. I chose this song because my sister and I…to this very day…can recite the entire soundtrack word for word. Hair was #1 (of my two) favorite soundtracks, and although I didn’t see it performed live, I did suggest that our local community theater put it on as a production (back in the day when I performed in community theater). Shockingly, they turned it down. Part of the joys of living along the tip of the Bible Belt? Nevertheless, of the two musicals I enjoy – the ONLY two musicals I enjoy, Hair takes first place with Jesus Christ Superstar second. The Hair soundtrack I love the most is from the off-broadway performance, not the movie as many songs were omitted from the movie.

Hair is a rock musical which, when first appeared on off-broadway in the late 1960s, was controversial due to the profanity, sexual references and hippie culture. It featured inter-racial relationships and anti-war sentiments (Vietnam War specifically). The movie, from which the clip below is from, was released in 1979, and focuses on two members of the “tribe”. Berger (played by Treat Williams) and Woolf (played by Don Dacus) chasing after a soon-to-be member of the tribe Sheila (Beverly D’Angelo).

The song, Sodomy, does not need any translation of the lyrics. But I believe, without a doubt, they fit this week’s theme. And thank you, I shall be humming this song, Abie Baby and many others all day today!

  1. SadiRose this song was new to me, but it was very enjoyable and a perfect fit for the theme. I guess when you go to Sodom it is like going to Rome and you should do like the romans do, and I think they actually enjoyed sodomy.
