Sunday Ramblings – Cars

We are off on the first Sunday rambling of 2022. This week, E.M. is prompting us to ramble on about cars.

Here are the questions:

We all had a first car. What year, make, and model was your first car? My first car was a Plymouth Horizon (pause for groans to subside). I cannot remember the year, but I *think* it was new and I got it in 1984 or 85.

2. If you won the lottery, would you buy your dream car and what kind would it be? If you do not care to talk about cars, how would you spend your lottery money? Well, I do not care about cars, so I really haven’t thought of a “dream car”. I have always been fond of the older Jaguars, but mechanically I am told they were awful. Maserati has always has pretty cars to look at and the word is fun to say. For me, as long as I get from point A to point B, it starts when I engage the ignition, handles on the road, and doesn’t cost a ridiculous amount to keep it fueled (yeah, I know our current situation makes that a laughable dream), I am happy with it. I rarely comment on the make, model or color. Just reliability. However, back to the question at hand. If I won the lottery, I would buy my husband HIS dream car, which is a Corvette.

Ah…my Angie

3. The Transporter (hauling other people and going from point A to point B), Gone in 60 Seconds (fast!), or Driving Miss Daisy (Slow)? (This would be examples of your driving style.) Definitely Gone in 60 Seconds. Anything with Angie Jolie. She’s my favorite. My sister is definitely The Transporter and her vehicles show it. And my husband, well, although he can drive with decent speed when needed, he is one of the most cautious drivers I know – I would say he is Driving Miss Daisy (and he would tell you I am “Miss Daisy”). The kind that sits back to see what the tractor-trailer is going to do – cut over into the passing lane or stay put? Me…I’m on the tractor-trailer ass like white on rice and he/she better not even think about cutting me off. Maybe that’s why my husband is going gray? Picturing my girls and their driving – well, my eldest would be Driving Miss Daisy – super cautious and meticulous; and my youngest, well, she’s more of something out of the Fast and Furious series.

4. Which is your preference to drive on: Interstate, Freeways, or Back Roads? Back roads. I love the constant change of scenery and curves in the road. Plus my road rage tendencies make driving on the interstate frustrating. I don’t understand how some people are permitted to have driver licenses. On back roads, the only “hazards” are the farm tractors and Amish buggies, but they are easily passable and avoidable if you can stay off the roads at daybreak and Sundays!!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Pick your favorite famous car on television. I wish I could say I pay any attention to cars on television. I’m not a big car person so it isn’t something I look at. But the car that comes to mind as having been memorable was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – I mean, it flew and floated. As a child watching the movie, I was enthralled. So we will go with that car.

Blogging gets the noise in my head least for a little while. I use blogging to weed through all that noise and find the humor in each situation, even if it takes some time to find it. I am not selling anything, just sharing experiences as a mother, Amma, wife, paralegal, volunteer, Muslimah, sister, daughter, mother-in-law, woman.

  1. Hi Sadi! My ex-friend, Ernie, had a Horizon. Those things were pretty reliable, to be honest. They definitely got the job done! Corvettes are pretty, so hubby is very lucky that you would buy him one if you won the lottery. I am in my mid-life crisis now, hence why I have my Dodge Charger R/T with a Hemi *giggles* I giggled when I read about the farm equipment (my sister gets road rage over them on our back roads) and your interstate road rage. I am the same way. I yell at people who are driving on their phones and flip people off when they cut me off lol. My daughter says I am a petty driver. She’s probably right haha! I think Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was before my time, but I love classic cars like that. My ex-husband used to restore cars like that. I loved reading your answers! They were really fun! Thanks for joining in, and have a great week Sadi! *smiles*
